Casseroles, Characters, and Cold Cases:
The Annual All-Day Genealogy Lock-In
and Research Party

Saturday, July 11, 2026, 10:00am – 7:00pm

Evidence Exhibit A: Suspects seen here clearly enjoying themselves while
‘collaborating’ on a 19th-century cold case.

What could be better than an entire day spent in your natural habitat with a room full of fellow family detectives? Since we have the library all to ourselves after-hours, the real mischief can begin. We’ll be corroborating our stories and collaborating on our research with a level of conspiratorial intensity that’s frankly borderline criminal—though we promise the “Lock-In” is purely thematic; you’re legally allowed to come and go as you please. Best of all, we’re providing the fuel for your investigations with snacks and a “lite” supper you didn’t have to cook or carry. Come help us unearth the family secrets the ancestors tried to bury, and enjoy the best genealogical gossip in Hopkins County!

*Space is limited. Register for after-hours genealogy research with exclusive access to databases, computers, microfilm, books and volunteer assistance.
$15 Donation per person
Copies 10¢ all day
Complementary Lite Supper
Door Prizes!
Three ways to register:

*Advance Registration and/or payment is not required but letting us know you are coming is helpful for room set-up and food preparation. Supper is compliments of HCGS. Please do not bring food for that.

Disclaimer: HCGS is not responsible for any family trees accidentally set on fire during the shaking process. ‘Lock-in’ status does not actually include shackles, though we cannot account for the gravitational pull of the microfilm reader.

🎄HCGS 2025 Holiday Social 🎄

Sunday, December 14, 2025, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
611 N. Davis St., Sulphur Springs, TX

The holiday season is the perfect time to hang up the census sheets, close the DNA tabs, and join your fellow family detectives for an afternoon of cheer at the Hopkins County Genealogical Society’s Third Annual Holiday Social.

This gathering is our way of saying a heartfelt thank you to our volunteers — the elves who keep the records tidy, the books shelved, and the library lights glowing bright. (Without them, our branches would definitely be broken.)

Bring along a favorite finger food to share, and prepare to swap not just recipes but a few of those legendary “you won’t believe what I found in the courthouse basement” stories.

All members are invited!
Good fellowship, good food, and genealogical gossip guaranteed.

Mark your calendars, polish your spectacles, and join us for laughter, gratitude, and maybe even a few tall tales from your family tree.

Hopkins County Genealogical Society

Join the Hopkins County Genealogical Society for a lively guided stroll through Sulphur Springs’ City Cemetery, where pioneers of Hopkins County will step out of the past (with a little help from our costumed volunteers) to share stories of the lives that shaped our community. A donation of $10 gets you two hours of history, characters, and maybe even a few surprises.
